Timing belts drive the camshaft from the crankshaft to control the opening and closing of your Mercedes Benz CLK Class engine valves. The drive belts (fan belts) manage the alternator, the water pump*, Air Conditioning and power steering, whilst optimising overall car performance. These belts should be checked during every service for signs of cracking and wear.

*On some vehicles the water pump is driven by the timing belt. Should this be the case it is best to replace the water pump as part of the project. The cost and the time element of replacing the timing belt will need to be repeated should the water pump fail.
